My Frost Dates turns official climate records into frost dates and planting calendars for any US ZIP code. It's free and independent.

Data sources

• Frost dates: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, U.S. Climate Normals 1991–2020 (annual/seasonal agricultural normals): probabilities of the last spring and first fall occurrence of 36°F, 32°F and 28°F, and growing season length, for 7,029 stations.
• Places and ZIP codes: US Census Bureau 2024 Gazetteer files and Vintage 2024 population estimates.

We match each town or ZIP code to the nearest station with frost records. Dates describe a typical year over 1991–2020; actual frost varies from year to year and with local terrain.

Planting windows follow common university extension guidance, timed in weeks from the average frost dates.
